From the Days of Building It Yourself

You might know me from the days when professional ceramic equipment was practically unavailable in our region. The internet was in its infancy, and we, as clay enthusiasts, had to rely on our own resourcefulness. We built kilns from whatever materials we could find, experimented with wood-firing, and looked for ways to push the craft forward together.

This era of trial and error taught me more than any textbook ever could. Back then, I founded Artkeramika.cz - a space where we shared know-how to help the community grow. We continue that same philosophy at Relyef. We simply added high-end engineering to that passion for clay and took it to the world stage.

Even though I had decades of ideas in my head, the final piece of the puzzle was missing to bring them to life at the highest quality. That piece clicked into place when I founded Relyef with Radovan Markes.

Radovan brought a perspective from the world of modern technology and a precision-driven approach. This allowed us to transform these "clay visions" into perfect tools. Together, we built a team of skilled people who share our passion. From the first sketch to final testing in the studio, everything is a result of our synergy.

Because of this team, we don't just focus on how to make a tool; we focus on how to take ceramic technology to the next level. We aren't just a company; we are a creative community where tradition meets the future.

Most slab rollers simply make "pancakes." Our Slab Roller was created with a different goal. We wanted to integrate design directly into the slab-making process.

When the Masters Come to Learn: Collaborating with Kittec, Rohde, and Nidec Shimpo

Our technology didn't stop with small benchtop machines. Renowned manufacturers like Kittec and Rohde approached us to develop specialized Roller Sets and adapters for their large professional slab rollers. Why? Because their customers also want the benefits of direct decoration using Relyef rollers.

Texture rollers are great for effortlessly imprinting beautiful, seamless patterns onto your clay and elevating your ceramic art.

We are currently collaborating with the Japanese giant Nidec Shimpo to expand decoration possibilities for their rollers as well. For us, it is a confirmation that the "Czech way" which started with building kilns by hand is now setting the direction for global ceramics.

Tip: When using the Relyef Slab Roller for textured slabs, always start with a slightly thicker slab than your final target to allow the texture roller to bite into the clay without over-compressing the edges.
